Dance Hoopless!
Putting Your Hoop Down May Change How You Pick It Up Next Time
If you've read Part One of this series and have already put it to work, you're moving faster and thinking less.
You're beginning to understand how some hooping moves fit together and which combinations make sense and
feel good for you.

Part Two. Now let's take the "tricks" out of it.  Forget your combinations. Put your hoop down.  Pick a song
that's moving you at the moment and
just dance. Yes, without your hoop.

What to Look For. What are your feet doing? What are your hips and hands doing? Notice how your head moves,
your shoulders, your fingers. Take it all in. Then pick up your hoop and work it in. Do your best to continue
moving as you were without your hoop, resisting the temptation to revert to the combinations you're accustomed
to doing with a hoop.

Why? Because you're hoop is dancing with you. Because your hooping is not, in the end, just a series of tricks.
It's what your body wants to do with the music and how your hoop can help you do it. Let your free-style dancing
direct the hoop, rather than allowing what-you-know-how-to-do-with-a-hoop to dictate your dancing. Your body will
dutifully present you with possibilities in your hooping that you'd never imagined.

You thought you were hooping? Sure you are. You're also dancing. Your body is translating the music you love --
and the way you move to it -- into physical, bodily, visual art. You may have a hoop in your hand, but you are in
fact a dancer. So, dance. Throw your hair, bang your head, do the salsa ... your hoop will follow you, you will feel
incredible, and you just might shift your thoughts from "what can I do with this hoop?" to "what
can't I do with this
hoop?"

P.S.: If you're like me - that is, the last thing you would have called yourself before picking up a hoop was a
"dancer" - dancing hoop-less can be daunting. But you can do it - the rewards far outweigh the embarrassment
you fear. And you will be pleasantly surprised to learn that freeing yourself to dance in a hoop has, in fact, freed
you to dance without it, too.
